I would wash out as much of the brandy color as possible before attempting to bleach it again, a yes, then you'll have a light pink base to dye on and your purple will end up 'too pink' again. Whenever I dye my hair purple I always do a combination of Pimpin' Purple and Deep Purple. Deep purple is a really true purple that dyes very dark. If you had of used this shade over your orange locks you probably would have got your true purple, it just would have been super dark.

To fade out your color, I recommend Head&Shoulders shampoo. Lather, throw it up in a shower cap for 30 minutes, rinse for 5. Allow to rest for a day, repeat. You can also try crushing up some Vitamin C pills and mixing them in as well for a little extra help.
you seem like a box dye genius, and i need your help! I really wanted my hair a lovely true purple, like this http://www.amphigory.com/aww.jpg, so after much consideration, i bought special effects [unfortunately named] pimpin purple. but my hair is naturally dark, so first i bleached it using splat's [shitty] bleach kit, and my hair didn't get lighter than orange. but after a google search to see if orange hair + pimpin purple = purple, and determining that it infact did (damn internet!), i dyed my hair with the sfx dye anyway. and it came out a brandy/fushia color. which doesn't work well at all with my skin tone. i'm thinking of bleaching it out and starting all over, either with another shade of purple, or with orange. but because that sfx color which shall not be named fades to pink anyway, i am nervous that if i try to bleach or lighten it, it will just go pink, and mess up any attempts to redye it, since both purple and orange would be sensitive to pink undertones. is there anyway i can get it to white, or at least yellow or orange again?

Wow, I'm surprised your hair is holding up! I would try the toner first, see if maybe it is a hue residue rather than pigment not being lifted. If not, I would try a really diluted bleach mixture, with 10 volume developer.

Hi, I've recently gone from a dark, almost black brown, to an ashy white. It took three bleaches and even then it was a bright (but very light) yellow. Didn't want to look radioactive so they put in an 11 ash blonde through it and it's now grey with light yellow tinges at the end. Not really a good look. I'm wondering what to do now to fix it. I'm thinking either a bleach wash or just bleach to remove the grey then perhaps manic panics virgin snow as a toner? Thoughts? (My hair is pretty thick and pixie cut so it hasnt sustained too much damage yet)

[...] Dilute your dye! Only a small amount of bright dye is needed when going pastel, so mix it with conditioner or toner. For a blue pastel hue, I recommend Directions Silver Toner, or Special Effects Purple Toner. A goal is to make the color in your mixing bowl look two shades darker than how you want it on your head. So- if you are aiming for light lavender, you are going to want to have a medium lavender mixture. Here’s a guide on how to dye your hair properly with pastel hair dye. [...]

Thank you!! I will try this out today and let you know how it works. I like the tone of my hair but wouldn't mind having it a little bit lighter. So if I choose a stronger store-bought dye, should I apply to my roots first and then cover the head for 10 mins or so? Or do I use the allover method that comes with the box? I read somewhere that ash dye on top of ash dye can turn out blue/gray, but I guess that might not be an issue with a color that lifts. Do you think I should try to strip the color first, before adding a new dye? Also, what about the possibility of going to sally beauty supply and getting a professional hair color and matching developer? You think that's something that a DIYer could handle?

You're blog rocks btw! :)
