In Canada, Thanksgiving has been over for a while. We’ve had a few weeks to mull over autumn, put away our corncobs and compost our pumpkins. But even in Canada, the US Thanksgiving marks an important day on our Christmas calendars, the santa clause parade. This is also the day the malls overload with children who have donned their reindeer antlers and are either waiting excitedly, or reluctantly to see Santa. And – I’m pretty sure I don’t even need to get into the insanity that is known as Black Friday.
So, from now until Christmas, you’ll head to the store armed with a list, and push through crowds of people, listen to the same Josh Groban Christmas CD, and wait in countless lines just to buy your cousin a pair of knitted mittens.
But, if you plan it right, and arm yourself before risking the mall, you can get the most out of the pre-Christmas season, without loosing your mind.
Group buy sites are the latest in online shopping. They’re a great way for local businesses to attract new customers, and a great way for us poor girls to score awesome deals on entertainment, vacations, food, and shopping! How awesome are these deals? Typically 50-75% off of the retail price.
Sound to good to be true? Well it isn’t. Group Buy sites work through social networking. The reason why you get an-almost wholesale price, is because companies have the goal to sell thousands of that particular deal, not just a couple. They do this via a ‘tipping point’; a minimum number of required ‘buys’ before the deal becomes ‘active’. This method encourages you to share your favorite deals on facebook and twitter, to ensure that your deal becomes ‘active’ and you score your awesome sale!

Ah, the glamorous past. I figured because I’ve been swirling in the styles of the 40′s this weekend, this week’s ‘AND THEN THIS HAPPENED‘ would not be complete without a touch of the sexism so prevalent in America’s Golden years.
You’ve heard about Wall Street. The good and the bad. At first, the news refused to recognize about it, the hundreds of people stationed out in the streets of New York, but those numbers quickly grew into the thousand, and now they can’t stop talking.
What you probably don’t know if that on October 15th, the protests are spreading. They’re coming to your city, to your state, to your country. And whether you think you agree with the protestors or not, all I ask is that you read my post, and learn what they’re about. You may find that you too have some views in common with the hippies down on wallstreet.
