TRY THIS: Ombre Hair

Being September (*give up summer groan*), I’ve been keeping my eyes open for hot styles for fall. And I’ve got it. Ombre hair. It’s a great work-friendly style that’s still edgy enough for whatever it is you do at night. How to achieve it? Pick a neutral, red-free chestnut hue for the base and lighten the tips to a golden natural blonde.

See below for even more photos of this rad fall-friendly style.

Hot Right Now: The Waterfall Braid

The Waterfall braid, also known as the cascading braid, or the partial french braid, is a great new way to add a bohemian touch to down hair styles. It’s also a great way to keep flyaways at bay!

Here are is a video tutorial to re-create this braid-style! [Read more...]

LOOK: The Fishtail Braid

When I was a little girl, I had this amazing ‘KLUTZ’ brand book that had tons of different ways to braid and style your hair. Apart from the fact that most were tied off with gigantic lime green scrunchies, many of the braids I performed on the heads of my un-suspecting barbies are still popular today.

One style in particular that is getting a big bump in the fashion world is the fishtail braid; mainly for it’s loose, messy, no-fuss look. It’s very girl-next-door-cares-not chic.

Inspiration: Yellow Hair

I had yellow hair once, but only for about a week. It was just after my 19th birthday, and I had attempted to bleach out my orange hair. It lifted to the greatest shade of neon yellow ever, so I left it for about a week before going over it with red.

I’ve had purple hair now for almost-a-year-and-a-half. Now, I have added variations; a turquoise, cobalt or lavender streak here and there, but as someone who used to change her hair color every month, I’m kind of in a rut.

I hope to lift the purple out of my hair enough so it’s back to a silvery blonde before the summer. Then I bland to smother it in ‘Bright as F#@! Yellow’ from the Special Effects Line.

I’m a little bit worried that I’m going to hear a lot of ‘You Look Like Lady Gaga’ a lot over the summer, but yellow hair looks too badass to pass on just because a celebrity has already ‘claimed the color’. (Damn yoo Katy Perry with your Blue Betty Wig!)

Anyways, while I sit here loning for summer and pining for yellow hair, I figured I’d share some stellar photos I stumbled across..

Hair Inspiration: What’s Hot in Dye-Land

If you follow me on twitter, you’ll know that I’ve been hankerin’ to change my typically purple n’ turquoise locks. My hair has been the same 2 shades for over a year and a half now, and despite changing the cut a few times, I’m ready for a color overhaul. So I visited various hair sites and hunted through tumblr to get hair-inspired.

And I’d like to share with you some of the most popular dye-styles that are hot right now:

1. The Dip-Dye

Dip-Dyeing is the process of dyeing only the tips of your hair and leaving the rest a natural tone. It’s less damaging that achieving and over-all unnatural color, and is accepted at most workplaces.  It’s also low maintenance and has minimal bleeding. Most popular shades for this are bold primary colors like red and blue, or dark shades like forest green.
