New Hair; Natural Blonde with Purple Special Effects Dip-Dye

New Hair, New Hair! This summer I decided to give my tresses a bit of a break and go back to my natural color and allow my roots to roam free this summer. I picked up a new dye, L’Oreal’s Sublime Mousse (review coming soon!) in a color identical to my natural shade, and apprehensively applied it over my platinum bleached and pink ended hair. The result was pretty awesome. I then took three of my favorite Special Effects USA shades, Pimpin’ Purple, Deep Purple, and Blue Mayhem, and applied them in that order to the last 1/6th of my hair.

The result was a really awesome cascade.

It’s still a bit of a surprise when I look in the mirror and see my natural color, but I’m really starting to dig it. Enjoy more narcissism via webcam stills after the jump. [Read more...]

Bleach Shampoo: How Lift, Fade, and Remove Hair Dye with a Bleach Bath.

Recently, I’ve been trying to remove the purple hair dye out of my locks. I’ve tried several home remedies and tricks I’d learned through the years spent as a dye hard, but I had yet to try the intimidating and daunting, shampoo bleaching.

I’d heard for a while that it can help lift the color of semi-permanent hair dyes (as well as other neat tricks, as posted below) without damaging your hair as much as a full-out bleaching, but I was still a little wary.

But, one day while browsing the local pharmacy, I was feeling bold and sick of my semi-faded hue, so I picked up a packet of bleach..

Hair Inspiration: What’s Hot in Dye-Land

If you follow me on twitter, you’ll know that I’ve been hankerin’ to change my typically purple n’ turquoise locks. My hair has been the same 2 shades for over a year and a half now, and despite changing the cut a few times, I’m ready for a color overhaul. So I visited various hair sites and hunted through tumblr to get hair-inspired.

And I’d like to share with you some of the most popular dye-styles that are hot right now:

1. The Dip-Dye

Dip-Dyeing is the process of dyeing only the tips of your hair and leaving the rest a natural tone. It’s less damaging that achieving and over-all unnatural color, and is accepted at most workplaces.  It’s also low maintenance and has minimal bleeding. Most popular shades for this are bold primary colors like red and blue, or dark shades like forest green.

Home Remedies For The Removal of Hair Dye. Do they measure up?

Recently I was faced with a hair dye dilemma.  After previously over-bleaching my hair, and experiencing mega-breakage, I decided to cool it with the chemicals and choose one color and stick with it for a little bit, to give my mane a break. I chose red.

Unfortunately I get bored easily and after having my hair red for only three months, I was way ready for a new color. I decided to go with a mix of Special Effects Hair Dye in Pimpin’ Purple and Fishbowl – an awesome turquoise.

But, I knew my shoulder-length hair wouldn’t stand another bleaching without breaking into a choppy bob. But under my Feria-Box-Red hair color, was blonde waiting to be unleashed and dyed yet again. So I scoured the internet, and decided to try threehome-remedies to see if I could get the dye out of my hair, without resulting to bleach or stripping.
