Halloween is fast approaching, but I seem to be the only house on my street with pumpkins and ghosts decorating the lawn. When I was a kid, I remember visiting almost all of the houses on the street, all of them decorated with at least a lit pumpkin, or a colored porch light. Walking home from school I used to get so giddy seeing the pumpkins appearing on doorsteps, cobwebs appearing around garages. Its seeing these decorations that probably sparked my need to parade around the house, up and down the hallways in whatever unfortunate costume I had decided to don that year. (Fun fact: As a wee one, I had a kangaroo costume that I absolutely loved and refused to give up. There are pictures of me scrunched into it one Halloween, and it clearly being a costume for a small toddler– barely came to my ankles and wrists. I still remember carrying the removable joey around the house, and my mother tying the floppy-eared hat too tightly under my chin.)
But enough fond childhood memories. The point is, either people don’t have the Halloween spirit like they used to, or y’all are getting lazy. And with this post, I hope to change that. So put on your paint-pants, grab your cobwebs, and let’s spook the house!
