I often get asked how to wear bold colors. Normally, I don’t completely cover my lids in green eyeshadow and go to the grocery store. But I don’t like to leave the house without color either. If I were to do plain and simple makeup all of the time, the crazy shades would just sit in my kit, unused except for special occasions.
So, when you are trying to rock a punch of color for the daytime, pick one shade you love, and that can hold it’s own alone or with a subtle high light. I chose Miss Argentina, a Light Turquoise, because it’s bright, fresh, and super shimmery, which catches green, blue, and silver flecks in the sunlight.
Also, I used it as a soft liner under the lower-lashline, and I kept my lids completely bare, except for some concealer, and my liquid black liner. I then took a hint of a sparkly white shadow as a highlight in the inner corner. I also lined my waterline with white liner, my favorite trick.
Also, when you go monochrome and simple on the eyes, you can play with the lips and cheeks a bit as well. I was doing a subtle, more tasteful call-back to the 80′s, so I dabbed on a hint of bubble-gum pink blush. I also put on a coat of True pink lipstick, but voided most of it off on a tissue so it was just a hint of pink.
You also want to start with a shear base. Whenever I go lighter on the eye/cheeks/lip makeup, I like to allow my nose freckles to show through, I don’t know why. I think they look cute. heh.
